In the Ndjami culture of Cameroon, blacksmiths create basic dolls for young girls to enjoy. These dolls are highly valued as companions, but when adorned with beads, shells, coins, and trinkets they transform into fertility dolls - cherished and nurtured as if they were real children.
Not only are these dolls cherished for playtime, but they also hold great cultural significance within the Ndjami community. Unadorned dolls are often displayed outside of homes as a symbol of the Ndjami people. The unique design of these dolls has even been adopted by nearby tribes who appreciate their beauty and cultural importance.
